Hi beautiful you,
Last week I was in the supermarket and behind me two women were absorbed in a deep conversation. I couldn’t help listening to them (they were kind of loud 😉).
I picked up something about a presentation that hadn’t gone the way she planned.
‘How embarrassing, really,’ she said with a chuckle. ‘I had everything perfectly prepared, and then I stumbled right at the most important part.’
The other woman placed her hand on her arm and said, ‘Oh well, that’s what makes us human,’ meant to reassure her, as if that’s what makes her beautiful, right?
Apparently, that is something we want to treasure within us. So the question “What makes us human?” seems like an important one to ask ourselves, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence.
Well, you probably already came up with the answer:
- Our feelings
- and our flaws
When we compare that with AI, we see the opposite, a machine without feelings, focused on perfection.
That raises another question within me (I hope it does within you too): looking at the human species today, it seems like many of us curse emotions and want to wipe out every imperfection.
That feels like a serious stalemate!
What do we realy want?!
Do we want to remain human, making mistakes once in a while, being asymmetric and full of emotions… or are we really choosing perfection, and soulless machines as our BFFs?
…
Because the most important thing we wipe out when we throw our feelings overboard is connection!
That means we have to face the result of that, ending up alone, disconnected from each other.
I understand the stalemate. Emotions can hurt deeply. Some feelings we’d rather lock away in Pandora’s box. But if you want to remain human, and if connection is something your heart is aching for, then being willing to face your emotions, even the hard ones, is the only way.
This is why I’m so passionate about bringing tools and insight into emotions. It’s also why I opened The Emotion Codex Community for free — so there’s a safe place to share your feelings and connect with kindred spirits. A place where feeling connects us.

With open arms, Vera
