head or heart?

Where do your insights come from?

Struggling to understand if your insights come from your heart or head?

I often see people struggling and deliberating whether their insights originate from their head or their heart. Those who grapple with this dilemma usually hold strong beliefs about the merits and flaws of each.

In one camp, the intellect and rational thinking are highly esteemed, while emotions might be considered capricious. On the other hand, the opposite group attributes greater purity to feelings and intuition, distrusting the reliability of the brain.

Regardless of your personal judgement of these two types of thought,  you are endowed with both. As human beings, we have been equipped with both mind and heart, along with our physical bodies, as tools to navigate our existence in this world. Ideally, we want all three to be aligned with each other.

Understanding how to use your heart and head as tools

The people I see struggling with this issue seem to be at the mercy of their heart and head, but these faculties were never meant to dominate us. They are meant to serve us, like tools. And you are the one who must know how to use these tools in the way they function best.

Harmony naturally arises between feelings and the body; they mirror, without reservation, what is in balance or not balanced within our system, what resonates, and what does not. However, the mind…well… it can sometimes deceive us, or we can let it lead us in the right direction. It cuts both ways. The big question here is: where are you in all this?

With your thoughts, you can aim; with your feelings, you can verify; with your body, you can physically make it happen”

So, how can you work with these three tools? First, you need to understand that:

Thoughts originate from the head (and that says nothing about whether they are right or wrong; thoughts are just thoughts). YOU are the one who engages with those thoughts! Keep that in mind. YOU are the one handling the tools. The brain provides you with these thoughts, but you make your choices! Then your feelings will give you feedback on whether or not you made the right choice. Your feelings serve as advisors, but they are not part of your brain that can focus and create. So, feelings merely have the function of advising, not doing; the mind initiates, and the body takes over, manifesting so that these thoughts become real,  in the material world.

The head and the heart should not be labelled as good or bad. They should not be seen as better or worse, or even dismissed entirely. Both need to be honoured and utilised in the manner they are meant to be used. And you are the one at the helm! You are the one who always makes the choices!

Always remember: You are not a victim of your thoughts, nor a victim of your feelings.
