From tension to ease: How emotional feedback can help

Ever had one of those days when everything goes wrong? There’s actually a name for it: Murphy’s Law.

This law says: “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.”  Depressing right? In everyday language however, this law is used to explain that “When something goes wrong, you’ll trigger a chain of errors.” And that statement actually makes a lot of energetically sense. Let me give you an example.

Yesterday my morning started with a zoom meeting which swallowed a lot of time due to a technical error. I had a lot on my plate that day and I had to choose where I was going to work on, because I didn’t have time for all of it… Yet everything had priority… and.. on top of that, my positive focus was completely gone because of this ch*tty meeting.

That’s the point where it goes wrong with a lot of people and Murhpy’s Law becomes active. Maybe you recognize the inner struggle to try to focus on your tasks, but it drains you and you cannot get a grip of any kind of flow. At the end of the day you haven’t done 25% of what you should have and it will only turn after a good night sleep.

Well, there’s another way out!

Yes, I also had the tendency to dive into my computer and hit the gas. Fortunately, I was also aware of my emotional landscape. It was restless, irritated, all over te place and almost slipping into feeling down.

Those are emotional alarmbells ringing!! Which means: cut the scene! Instead of waiting for the night to fall in so you can recover from the destructive spiral…. take that break NOW!

So I went to the forest and walked.

I walked until rest came over me.

Wanna know what happened next?

It took me two hours, but after that I found a flow, ran with it, did something completely different from what I had to do, and still got more done than I’d planned.

What could have happened if I hadn’t walked that long, is that ease wasn’t welcomed yet, restlessness build itself up again and the same scenario as always could have forced me to wait untill the next day.

So… listen to your emotional compass as often as you remind yourself of it, and truely listen! Emotions always provide you with feedback that you can use in that very moment.

What would happen if you listened to yours today?
